Thiruvananthapuram, February 21: The Kerala state secretariat accused the opposition of inciting unrest in the state during a statement released on Saturday. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) claimed that recent protests have crossed democratic boundaries and turned violent.

The CPI(M) strongly condemned the attack on Health Minister Veena George’s residence, asserting that protesters broke through the gate and entered the premises, placing a garland at her home. The party also alleged that a police vehicle was damaged and officers on duty were assaulted.

The secretariat stated that such incidents aim to create a crisis in law and order within the state. The CPI(M) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government have never shown intolerance towards democratic protests. The statement emphasized that the development of communists has come through intense struggles and sacrifices. The party noted that while it has led powerful movements during previous governments, it has never targeted ministers personally or protested at their homes.

Defending the government’s actions, the CPI(M) claimed that Kerala has ensured welfare and development over the past decade without causing widespread public unrest. The party alleged that those dissatisfied with this governance model are attempting to push the state towards unnecessary movements and violence.

In a robust defense of the public health sector, the party highlighted that it has achieved unprecedented levels in recent years, with modern facilities, quality treatment, and uninterrupted supply of medicines available in government hospitals.

They noted that complex procedures, such as liver and heart transplants, are now being performed in government hospitals, marking a first in the country. The CPI(M) stated that the government adheres to a zero-tolerance policy in such cases, ordering investigations and taking strict action where necessary. The party also claimed that the rate of surgical errors in Kerala is lower than global estimates cited by the World Health Organization.

The secretariat accused certain media outlets of exaggerating isolated incidents, spreading misinformation, and disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the state. It called for restraint and urged all stakeholders to cooperate in maintaining social harmony and law and order.
