Ujjain, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Mahakal Temple in Ujjain hosted a spectacular Bhasma Aarti on September 6, 2026, coinciding with the Dashami Tithi of Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine event.
Early Sunday morning, after seeking blessings from Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal, filling the temple with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The air resonated with the ringing of bells, conch shells, and the recitation of mantras.
As the temple gates opened, devotees performed a water ritual, pouring Panchamrit—made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices—over Lord Mahakal. The ceremony began with the ringing of a bell, offering water in reverence. Following the camphor aarti, Baba adorned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti was then performed amidst the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells, with Baba beautifully adorned with Tripund and a rudraksha garland.
The priests conducted the Mahaarati, allowing countless devotees to partake in this sacred ritual. Many had queued since the previous night to catch a glimpse of their beloved deity. Traditionally, men wear dhoti and women wear sarees to participate in the Bhasma Aarti.
According to custom, the Mahanairvani Akhara presents the Bhasma Aarti to Baba Mahakal. It is believed that after the offering of ashes, Baba Mahakal reveals his form to the devotees. Each year, a significant number of pilgrims travel to Ujjain to partake in this revered ceremony.
