Thiruvananthapuram, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in Kerala took a dramatic turn on September 22 as the CPI(M) and BJP exchanged sharp accusations against the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government. This conflict centers around the ongoing CMRL-Xalagic case, which has intensified the rivalry among the parties.
CPI(M) State Secretary M.V. Govindan accused Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan of acting as Prime Minister Modi’s “B team.” He claimed that the Congress and BJP are colluding to undermine former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and weaken the CPI(M).
Govindan questioned the UDF government’s decision to order a crime branch investigation based on a letter from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding monthly payments. He alleged that the Congress and BJP have joined forces to eliminate the CPI(M) in Kerala.
In contrast, BJP MLA V. Muraleedharan argued that the crime branch’s inquiry is part of a conspiracy between the UDF and LDF to shield Vijayan from a thorough investigation. He raised concerns about the necessity of yet another preliminary inquiry, given that the Income Tax Department, Serious Fraud Investigation Office, and ED have already conducted investigations.
Muraleedharan suggested that the Vigilance Department should have examined the case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He further stated that if the government is serious about the matter, it should hand the investigation over to the CBI.
These conflicting allegations have ensnared the UDF government in a web of political strife. The CPI(M) contends that the government is acting against Vijayan under a Congress-BJP agreement, while the BJP claims that the crime branch’s investigation is designed to protect him.
The government maintains that it is initiating the investigation based on the ED’s letter and that further actions will be taken in accordance with the law.
The CMRL-Xalagic case involves alleged financial transactions linked to CMRL and Xalagic Solutions, a company associated with Vijayan’s daughter, Veena T. The ED has called for further investigation into the matter. Veena’s husband, CPI(M) MLA and former state minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas, is also under scrutiny.
This unusual political scenario has emerged where both CPI(M) and BJP are questioning the same government from opposing perspectives. One side accuses the government of targeting Vijayan, while the other claims it is providing him with protection.
