United Nations, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : President Donald Trump has affirmed his administration’s support for the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor during a recent multilateral meeting with Gulf Cooperation Council leaders at the United Nations. He described this ambitious connectivity project as a vital alternative route for transporting energy and goods in the region.
Trump emphasized the need to move the Middle East’s energy infrastructure away from Iranian choke points, citing recent attacks on commercial vessels by Iran as a significant concern. “My administration strongly supports the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor,” he stated, underlining the importance of securing energy transport routes.
The proposed corridor, announced during the G20 summit in New Delhi in September 2023, aims to connect India with Gulf countries via sea routes and link these nations to Europe through rail and shipping networks. The initiative is designed to enhance trade, reduce transportation times, and strengthen economic and energy ties across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
In his remarks, Trump noted that his administration is collaborating with regional partners to ensure the smooth flow of oil from the Gulf. He claimed that the U.S. has safely extracted over a billion barrels of oil from the region recently. “Oil flow from the strait is now higher than at any time since the conflict began,” he added.
Trump also mentioned successful discussions involving his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who have engaged with mediators negotiating with Iran. He expressed optimism about a potential agreement, stating, “I think there is a strong possibility of a compromise.”
However, he issued a stern warning to Tehran, insisting that the resolution of disputes must come through dialogue or be swiftly concluded by alternative means. “We will make a deal, or it will end very, very quickly,” he cautioned.
The president asserted that U.S. military actions have significantly weakened Iran’s naval capabilities and destroyed much of its military infrastructure. He also highlighted Washington’s ongoing economic pressure on Tehran, hoping it would prompt decisive action before it is too late.
Trump thanked Gulf leaders for their partnership and investments in the U.S., referring to them as some of Washington’s closest allies. He also acknowledged their role in efforts to end the Gaza conflict, noting their previous meetings had led to peace agreements and international support for a comprehensive peace plan in Gaza. “We are united. We are all in complete agreement,” he concluded.
