Kannur, April 3: Congress General Secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal has accused the CPI-M of resorting to fraudulent voting tactics in light of their impending defeat in the Kerala Assembly elections. He claims that the party is supporting the creation of fake Aadhaar cards to facilitate bogus voting in Payyanur.
Venugopal pointed out that recent developments in Payyanur and Taliparamba, both in Kannur, clearly indicate that the CPI-M, fearing defeat as election day approaches, is reverting to its old tricks.
He stated that these activities are being orchestrated from a CPI-M office located in Payyanur. Allegedly, votes from Kalliassery are being duplicated and added to the Payyanur tally, enabling double voting.
Reports suggest that fake Aadhaar cards are being created for casting these fraudulent votes. Venugopal further alleged that such actions, aimed at undermining democracy, have the approval of the party’s top leaders.
In this context, the candidate has filed a complaint with the Election Commission, urging them to take the matter seriously. Venugopal accused the “panicking” Marxist party of resorting to violence and intimidation not only in Payyanur but also in Palakkad and Trikkaripur.
He claimed that opposition candidates’ posters are being torn down, Sandeep Warrior was obstructed in Trikkaripur, and threats were made against G. Sudhakaran’s driver.
Moreover, he noted that individuals who have left the CPI-M are being intimidated by reminding them of the fate of the slain rebel leader T.P. Chandrasekharan. Venugopal emphasized that no matter what strategies are employed, the LDF will not win this election, and even true communists have accepted this reality.
He asserted that the CPI-M is fearful that even its traditional supporters may not cast their votes. Venugopal also criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, accusing him of divisive appeasement politics, spreading misinformation, and resorting to low-level attacks.
Referring to comments about Sudhakaran, he remarked that the Chief Minister should “look in the mirror” before making such statements, adding that it is unfortunate to label a secular leader like Sudhakaran as communal.
