Agartala, April 2: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha criticized the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) on Thursday, accusing it of misleading the public with slogans like “Thansa,” “Greater Tipraland,” and “Puila Jati.”
Led by former royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, the TMP is an indigenous party allied with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While addressing a gathering in the Kunjaram Para area of the Natunbazar-Malbasa constituency in Gomati district, ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, CM Saha alleged that the TMP is trying to gain political advantage by “exploiting communal sentiments.”
The BJP leader stated, “They (TMP) are misleading people with false promises. If the BJP forms the government in the autonomous district council this time, there will be real and clear development for the ‘tribal’ communities.”
During the event, the Chief Minister welcomed around 700 voters from 203 families who joined the BJP.
CM Saha noted that TMP leaders have recently intensified their political activities, but lack consistency and clarity in their stance.
He remarked, “For a long time, they believed they would maintain control over the TTAADC and that everything would go their way. But now, the situation has changed.”
Saha also mentioned that the BJP had previously attempted to collaborate with the regional party TMP.
He added, “We held discussions multiple times, but they (TMP) kept changing their position. Like the communists, they want to dominate and control the TTAADC. Since cooperation was not possible, we (BJP) decided to contest the elections alone.”
Expressing confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, the former state president stated, “If we secure 28 seats and form the government in the TTAADC, people will witness real development in tribal areas. TMP only creates confusion with misleading statements.”
