Conviction in Minor Rape Case in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir

Ganderbal, February 9: The police in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir have successfully secured a conviction in a case involving the rape of a minor. A special court sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under the POCSO Act on Monday, along with a fine of ₹50,000.

This verdict was delivered by the Principal Sessions Judge of Ganderbal after concluding the hearings for the case. The accused has been identified as Raouf Ahmad Ganai, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganai, a resident of Takia Khalmulla Nagbal, Ganderbal. The court found him guilty under Sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act, sentencing him to two decades behind bars and imposing a hefty fine.

The court’s decision is a result of the strong and compelling evidence presented by the prosecution. The role of the prosecution department was crucial in this case. Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad Bhat led the prosecution, while Jahangir Rafiki effectively represented the prosecution in court.

The investigation was carried out by Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Akbar, whose professional and diligent inquiry played a significant role in bringing the accused to justice.

Ganderbal police hailed the court’s decision as a significant achievement, reaffirming their commitment to protecting vulnerable and sensitive groups in society, especially children. They clarified that efforts to ensure the harshest penalties for those involved in such heinous crimes will continue unabated.

In a post on the social media platform X, Ganderbal police stated, “The Jammu and Kashmir Police has secured a 20-year prison sentence for an accused involved in a serious crime under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.”
