BJP Responds to Congress Allegations Over Election Commission Review
The BJP rebuts Congress claims regarding irregularities in the Election Commissions review, asserting transparency and accuracy in the voter list process.

New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a detailed rebuttal to allegations made by the Congress party regarding irregularities in the Election Commission‘s (EC) Special Intensive Review (SIR). This response comes amid widespread controversy and calls for action from the opposition.
BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde shared a video on his Facebook account addressing the accusations against the EC, while also dismissing claims of the ruling party’s involvement in the matter. Recently appointed as the party’s in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, Tawde emphasized the integrity of the electoral process.
In the video, Tawde discussed several key issues, including the removal of names of 13 crore voters, alleged changes to Form 6, and modifications to the ECI-NET format. He clarified, “Names were not removed; they were marked for verification under categories such as deceased, absent, transferred, or duplicates. Final actions are taken only after claims, objections, and appeals are addressed.”
Details from the draft voter list indicated that approximately 2.6 crore voters were recorded as deceased, 3 crore were absent at their registered addresses, 6.3 crore had permanently moved to other locations, and 1 crore were registered as duplicates.
Tawde also stated that comprehensive information was shared with around 20 lakh booth-level agents from all parties. He asserted, “No changes were made to Form 6. The three election commissioners agreed on the additional information added, which received approval from the Supreme Court.”
The video further refuted claims of centralization, asserting that there were no structural changes in the framework. Local election commission staff, including Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), are fully equipped to handle voter requests at the local level.
Tawde accused Congress of spreading fear to obscure the facts and urged the public to focus on the truth rather than the opposition’s “lies and fabrications.” He reiterated that the SIR aims to include every voter, not disenfranchise anyone. Since the launch of the SIR campaign last year, 2.3 crore new Generation Z voters have been added, bringing the total to 17.3 crore.
The BJP leader described the allegations of “vote theft” as a tactic to mislead voters, asserting that the Election Commission has always operated within its legal authority. The SIR campaign has been upheld by the Supreme Court in all election-bound states, including Bihar and West Bengal.
