Congress Upsets BJP Stronghold in Pali Municipal Corporation Elections

Pali, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Congress party has dealt a significant blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Pali Municipal Corporation elections, transforming the region into a fiercely contested political battleground. Pali, located in Rajasthan, is the home district of BJP state president Madan Rathore, who has previously served multiple terms as the party’s district chief and has been a two-time legislator from Sumerpur.

In a surprising turn of events, Congress not only emerged as the largest party in the 65-member municipal body but also defeated the BJP in Rathore’s own ward. Congress secured victory in 29 wards, while the BJP managed to win 21 seats. Additionally, independent candidates claimed victory in 15 wards. Although Congress fell short of the 33 seats needed for a clear majority, they surpassed the BJP by eight seats.

This outcome marks a significant political setback for the BJP, which has maintained control over local governance in Pali for the past decade. The importance of Congress’s victory is underscored by Rathore’s deep ties to the area, having been a prominent leader within the BJP.

Despite being the largest party, Congress faces a challenge in forming the municipal board, as they will need the support of the independent candidates to reach the majority threshold and claim the mayoral position. Meanwhile, the BJP is likely to pursue these independents to prevent Congress from taking control of the municipality.

The results from the Pali elections are being viewed as one of the most crucial outcomes in the Rajasthan local body elections, especially given Congress’s notable gain in a region closely associated with the BJP’s state leadership. Political negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming days, with independent councilors poised to play a pivotal role as potential “kingmakers.”
