Delhi Increases Monthly Incentive for ASHA Workers to ₹6,000

New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has decided to double the monthly incentive for ASHA workers from ₹3,000 to ₹6,000. This increase will apply to all ASHA workers currently active in the city. Other incentive allowances will remain unchanged.

Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the critical role ASHA workers play in Delhi’s primary healthcare system. They visit homes to provide health information, encourage families to get vaccinated, and assist in services related to pregnant women and new mothers. ASHA workers also play a significant role in health and nutrition days, awareness programs, surveys, and community meetings. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they provided essential health services. Currently, there are 6,725 ASHA workers in Delhi, each typically linked to around 2,000 individuals or 400 families.

The Chief Minister noted that discussions about increasing the remuneration for ASHA workers had been ongoing. This initiative was a priority for the government, and a decision has now been made. The increase in the monthly incentive is seen as a significant step toward recognizing the contributions of ASHA workers and ensuring their financial security. It is expected to boost their morale and encourage them to continue their vital services, thereby strengthening primary healthcare and promoting women’s economic empowerment.

Gupta reiterated the government’s commitment to acknowledging the contributions of ASHA workers by improving their financial security and working conditions. By connecting people to health services, promoting vaccinations, and supporting maternal and child health, ASHA workers play an essential role. The increase in their monthly incentive is anticipated to help them fulfill their responsibilities with greater enthusiasm and dedication, enhancing the effectiveness of primary healthcare in Delhi.
