Katwa, February 11: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir has made a significant announcement regarding the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. He stated that the Congress party will field candidates in all 294 assembly seats across the state.
Mir’s declaration clarifies that Congress will not ally with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for these elections, mirroring TMC’s decision to contest separately in the Lok Sabha elections. Now, Congress has also confirmed its intention to run independently in the assembly elections.
While speaking in Katwa, Mir emphasized that Congress is fully prepared for the elections. He criticized both TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), detailing the party’s campaign strategies led by prominent leaders. He mentioned that the party’s manifesto is in its final stages and will be completed within ten days. The manifesto is being crafted based on discussions with the people of Bengal, focusing on their issues and demands.
Mir pointed out the shortcomings of TMC’s 15-year rule, which have led to public dissatisfaction, and highlighted the BJP’s failure to fulfill promises made during its 12 years in power in Delhi. Considering these factors, Congress has decided to contest all 294 seats in West Bengal for the first time in 20 years.
He also noted that key party figures, including National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will actively participate in the election campaign. The party aims to free the people of Bengal from what he termed “match-fixing.”
