New Delhi, August 13: During the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, tensions escalated between the ruling party and the opposition. The government proposed sending the FCRA bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for consensus, while the opposition labeled this move as a delayed action that wasted the public’s time.
Mahua Maji, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), expressed concern over the session’s inefficiencies. She stated, “The entire session has passed. So much valuable time and money of the country have been wasted. There has been chaos, walkouts, and repeated adjournments. Now, at the very end of the session, this issue is being raised. We do not understand why it took so long.”
Congress MP Chamalakiran Kumar Reddy echoed similar sentiments. He remarked, “Let them come at 2 PM, as the proceedings have been adjourned until then. If the Home Minister arrives at 2 PM, perhaps our party will take a stand, as until now, they have been saying they won’t come. I don’t know the reason. They are coming to Parliament but not participating in the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha proceedings. What is their issue? If they have done nothing wrong, why have they been hiding and forcing us to protest at the Makar Dwaar every day?”
Reddy further criticized the government, saying, “They could have done this last week instead. At least the house could have continued its work. Now, it’s the last day, and we are very close to the session’s end. I don’t understand why they want to confuse the people of the country and portray that the fault lies with us. We have done nothing wrong. We have been demanding answers from them for the past 10 days, but they have not responded. Today is the 12th, and Thursday is the last day of the session, yet they say, ‘I will come at 3 PM.’ Why not at 2 PM? This is merely to mislead the public and suggest that the opposition parties are the ones obstructing the house.”
