Chandigarh, May 22: Rao Narendra Singh, the Haryana Congress state president, expressed support for the ongoing SIR (Systematic Voter Registration) process in the state, emphasizing the need for improvements in the voter list. However, he condemned any political party that manipulates the voter list for electoral gain, stating that Congress will oppose such actions.
Singh mentioned that the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee has formed a special committee, including senior leaders, to oversee the SIR process. Additionally, workers are being appointed at the assembly and booth levels to ensure accurate verification of the voter list. He stressed the importance of preventing incorrect votes from being added and ensuring eligible voters are not omitted.
He called for the removal of deceased individuals from the voter list, correction of multiple registrations, and ensuring that each person has only one vote. According to Singh, party workers must monitor this process closely to maintain transparency in the electoral list.
Furthermore, he stated that Congress would oppose any political party that attempts to influence votes based on religion or caste, whether by adding or removing votes. Singh reiterated that Congress is a party that believes in the Constitution and aims to uphold the electoral process within its framework.
He also addressed recent directives regarding the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ in West Bengal schools, asserting that states have the right to create their own cultural and educational policies. He emphasized the need for balance rather than controversy. Regarding OBC reservations and policies related to social classes, he insisted that there should be no injustice towards the poor and backward classes. The government should formulate policies that include all societal segments, particularly the poor, laborers, farmers, and unemployed.
Singh highlighted that Rahul Gandhi has long pointed out various institutional issues in the country, noting that government policies are affecting educational institutions and administrative structures. He mentioned that Gandhi has repeatedly warned about the economic situation, urging the government to take these concerns seriously. He believes that if any political leader expresses concern about the country’s state, it is the government’s duty to consider these issues and take corrective measures to prevent instability.
He reported an incident on the night of the 15th, where unknown individuals attempted to breach his residence by jumping over the wall. Approximately six people entered the premises, cut the CCTV camera wires, and tried to lock the servant quarters from the outside. They also attempted to break some doors and locks. However, the staff inside woke up and raised an alarm, causing the intruders to flee. The police were immediately notified, and an investigation is underway.
Singh mentioned that the police have CCTV footage of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made yet. He also indicated that he has spoken with the Chief Minister of Haryana, the DGP, and the SP of Nuh district regarding this matter.
He expressed concern over rising crime rates, including theft, violence, and other serious offenses in the state. Citing data from the National Crime Records Bureau, he emphasized the need for serious attention to the increasing crime rates. Singh urged the government and police administration to work together to strengthen law and order so that citizens can feel safe.
