Congress MP Questions Self-Reliant India Initiative, Critiques Energy Independence

Saharanpur, May 26: Congress MP Imran Masood has raised concerns regarding the Prime Minister‘s 12-year tenure. He highlighted issues such as inflation, unemployment, education, energy, and foreign policy, questioning the central government’s performance.

Masood pointed out that in the past 12 years, petrol prices have surged by 48.2% and diesel prices by approximately 67.9%. He referenced the Finance Minister’s statement about the government facing a loss of ₹1 lakh crore.

He stated that the country’s economic condition has become alarming, with the common man struggling with rising prices. According to Masood, the system has weakened over the last 12 years. He lamented that the heights achieved by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee have been lost.

Masood emphasized that unemployment is at an all-time high, leaving the youth worried about their future. He noted that education has become so expensive that children from poor families can no longer access it. He remarked that young people are battling both job scarcity and educational challenges.

On India’s global standing, Masood criticized the central government. He stated that those familiar with history understand India’s identity in the world. He recalled that when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru visited the United States, the President personally welcomed him at the aircraft door.

Referencing Indira Gandhi, Masood mentioned her foreign trip during which she had a dispute with then-US President Richard Nixon over the Bangladesh issue. He claimed that she returned without meeting Nixon and did not even take his call.

The dispute between Nixon and Gandhi stemmed from the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War and America’s pro-Pakistan stance during the Cold War.

Masood also questioned the ‘Self-Reliant India’ campaign, stating that while the government speaks of self-reliance, it has yet to achieve independence in the crucial energy sector.
