Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Advocates for Open Parliamentary Debate

New Delhi, February 4: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has accused the ruling party of preventing opposition leader Rahul Gandhi from speaking in Parliament. She emphasized that Parliament is a temple of democracy, revered by every citizen, and it is essential to discuss critical issues within its walls.

Addressing the uproar in the Lok Sabha regarding Rahul Gandhi’s reference to former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane’s book on the India-China standoff, Priyanka stated, “Rahul Gandhi is quoting from a public source, yet he is being silenced. Meanwhile, members of the ruling party frequently cite magazines and books in Parliament.”

She noted, “Discussions on important matters related to China, Pakistan, and foreign policy have always been part of our tradition. Both the opposition and the government have openly presented their views. The truth is that the government is afraid of the reality being exposed to the public, which is why they are trying to prevent the publication of the book.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asserted that this issue extends beyond just silencing the opposition leader. It touches on fundamental aspects of democracy and the functioning of Parliament. “If someone is presenting their viewpoint, what is the problem? They are afraid of what might be revealed. The book contains information that shows the responses of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defense Minister, and our top leadership during a crisis. It reflects the character of their government when faced with attacks and incursions by Chinese soldiers at our borders.”

Commenting on the suspension of eight opposition members from Parliament, Priyanka remarked that such suspensions have become a routine occurrence in every session.

Ujjwal Raman Singh described the suspension of MPs as unfortunate, stating that the BJP has set a concerning precedent. He emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament. “Parliament is a place for open exchange of ideas, yet the BJP government seeks to stifle the opposition’s voice. The ruling party is evading its responsibilities and does not want to engage in dialogue within the house. The opposition leader is not allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha.”

He added, “This is not about throwing papers; it is about an attempt to suppress voices. The government is wasting the country’s resources and wants to prevent any discussions from taking place.”
