New Delhi, August 19: Congress MP Nasir Hussain has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s commendation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. He suggested that it would be beneficial if Trump brought Kumar to the U.S.
In a media interaction, Hussain stated that the ruling BJP and its government are unable to defend Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This has led to Trump stepping in to offer support. Hussain quipped that if Trump appointed Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner in the U.S., he would likely continue the same practices there as he does in India.
Additionally, Congress leader Charan Singh Sapra commented on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s decision to cancel all examinations under JSSC-CGL and TDP. He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi and the entire Congress party have consistently stood by students, whether during the protests at Jantar Mantar or in Jharkhand. Sapra noted that Gandhi has clearly stated that student demands should be heard and acted upon, a sentiment that the Jharkhand government has acknowledged. Students across the country and in Jharkhand have welcomed this decision.
Regarding Trump’s remarks, Sapra pointed out that the U.S. President lacks a comprehensive understanding of the ground realities in India. He clarified that the Congress is not opposed to the SIR principles but is critical of the Election Commission‘s functioning as a puppet under the BJP government. He highlighted the removal of numerous voters from the electoral rolls in West Bengal, with many cases still pending in tribunals. Sapra urged Trump to be informed about the situation in Bihar and related issues.
On the alleged theft related to donations for the Ram Temple, Sapra stated that it would be inappropriate to comment without reviewing the SIT report.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Ripun Bora raised concerns about the Assam Chief Minister’s proposed decisions. He argued that there is no need for new regulations, as existing laws already address such matters. Bora criticized the Chief Minister for disregarding both the Constitution and the law, asserting that there is no necessity for new rules when adequate legislation is already in place.
