Bhopal, February 19: Madhya Pradesh’s Finance Minister Jagdish Devda presented the third budget of the BJP government in the assembly on Wednesday. The government claims that this budget pays special attention to all sections of society. However, Congress legislators have labeled it a betrayal of the common people.

Congress MLA Phool Singh Baraiya criticized the budget, stating that it is filled with empty rhetoric. He argued that the budget deceives the people of Madhya Pradesh in the name of development. “If the debt increases, the future of the state will be in jeopardy,” he warned. He emphasized that educated youth are seeking jobs, not speeches. He also raised concerns about the thousands of missing women over the past two years, questioning the government’s efforts in ensuring their safety. “The law and order situation is deteriorating, and the police do not engage properly with the public,” he added.

Congress MLA Atif Akil remarked that while budgets are presented annually, the poor continue to hope for their rights to be addressed, which remains unfulfilled.

Congress leader Umang Singhar described the BJP’s budget as one of dreams and empty promises. “This is a budget of figures. If it is a deficit budget, how can they promise millions to the people?” he questioned. He noted that farmers were overlooked in the budget and criticized the lack of government job recruitment despite numerous advertisements. “The government lacks funds, and employees will only be hired on a contractual basis. Electricity rates are high, and people are not receiving any relief,” he stated.

Congress MLA Arif Masood called the budget a disappointing deficit budget. He pointed out that the funds allocated under the Ladli Behna scheme are insufficient and that the government has failed to fulfill its promises, resorting to borrowing instead. “What can we discuss about this deficit budget in the assembly?” he asked.
