
New Delhi, April 3: The Jan Vishwas (Amendment Provisions) Bill, 2026 has been passed by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, marking a significant step towards enhancing ease of doing business and improving the quality of life in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness regarding this development.
On the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi stated that the passage of this bill is a major boost for ‘Ease of Living’ and ‘Ease of Doing Business’. He emphasized that it is a matter of great joy that Parliament has approved the Jan Vishwas (Amendment Provisions) Bill, 2026, which strengthens a trust-based system that empowers citizens.
He further noted that this bill represents a significant move towards eliminating outdated and irrelevant regulations. Additionally, it will facilitate quicker resolutions of cases, reduce the burden of litigation, and decriminalize many offenses. A noteworthy aspect of this bill is that it was developed with consultations from all stakeholders.
PM Modi congratulated everyone who contributed suggestions for the bill’s formulation and supported it in Parliament.
This legislation reflects the government’s commitment to promoting a trust-based governance framework and ensuring proportional regulation. It aims to decriminalize minor offenses and rationalize existing legal provisions to reduce compliance burdens on individuals and businesses.
According to the bill’s provisions, amendments have been made to 784 provisions across 79 central acts administered by 23 ministries. Of these, 717 provisions have been decriminalized to enhance ease of doing business, while 67 provisions have been amended to facilitate ease of living.
Overall, the bill seeks to rationalize over 1,000 offenses by eliminating minor crimes, thereby improving the overall regulatory environment and creating a more favorable ecosystem for businesses and citizens.
