New Delhi, March 5: The Congress party has ramped up its preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat by forming several state-level committees. Senior leaders have been assigned to oversee strategy, campaign operations, and election management as the party begins its organizational groundwork.
Party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal announced on Thursday that the Congress President has promptly approved the proposal to establish these committees for the local body elections in Gujarat.
According to the notification, Bharat Singh Solanki will chair the strategy committee, with Lalji Desai as vice-chairman and Hemang Vasavada as convener. The campaign committee will be chaired by Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, while Paresh Dhanani serves as vice-chairman and Lok Sabha MP Geniben Thakor as convener.
The election management committee, responsible for overseeing organizational and electoral coordination, will be chaired by Siddharth Patel. MLA Jignesh Mevani has been appointed vice-chairman, and senior leader and former minister Bimal Shah will serve as convener. Jagdish Thakor will chair the program implementation committee, with Indravijaysinh Gohil as vice-chairman and Himmat Singh Patel as convener.
To formulate the party’s electoral agenda, the manifesto committee will be chaired by MLA Shailesh Parmar, with Rutvik Makwana as vice-chairman and Dr. Manish Doshi as convener. Additionally, the party has established three-member committees to handle communication and publicity.
Speaking to a news agency, Shah stated that the approval for forming these committees was granted by the party’s central leadership, marking a significant step in election preparations. He emphasized the necessity of these committees, noting that they have received high command approval. The upcoming local body elections are crucial for the party’s political strategy in the state.
Shah remarked that the party is taking the elections in Gujarat very seriously, as they will set the stage for the 2027 assembly elections. He explained that the names of the committee members were proposed by state leadership to ensure maximum participation while covering various aspects of the election process.
Discussing the panel, Shah highlighted that the election management committee will play a vital role in organizational coordination, focusing on booth-level planning. He added that the party leadership is closely monitoring developments in the state.
“We are working hard, and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi is paying significant attention to Gujarat. The committees are expected to meet at least five to six times to review preparations and the election process,” he stated.
The local body elections in Gujarat will encompass municipal corporations, municipalities, and panchayats. As civic elections approach, political parties have begun their organizational preparations. The results of these elections are often viewed by parties as indicators of grassroots support and organizational strength ahead of major electoral contests in the state.
