New Delhi, August 16: The Congress party has announced significant organizational changes within its Meghalaya unit. This move is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the party’s structure, leading to the appointment of new officials and the formation of key committees effective immediately.
According to a statement from KC Venugopal, the party’s General Secretary (Organization), Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the appointment of two Executive Presidents, one Senior Vice President, three Vice Presidents, and three General Secretaries for the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Deborah C. Marak and Khranglin Lingkhoi TBN have been appointed as Executive Presidents, while Saleng A. Sangma has been designated as Senior Vice President.
Boniface Bamon, Boldness L. Nongum, and Omarlin Kindiah will serve as Vice Presidents. Wanasuk Siem, Sanjay Das, and Brigedy N. Marak will take on the roles of General Secretaries.
The Congress party has also restructured its district-level organization in Meghalaya. Marak has been named President of the South West Garo Hills District Congress Committee.
These appointments are part of the party’s “Organization Creation Campaign” and are effective immediately.
In another significant step related to organization, Congress has established four main committees for the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee: the Political Affairs Committee, the State Election Committee, the Disciplinary Action Committee, and the Manifesto Committee.
Former Tamil Nadu Congress leader A. Chellakumar has been appointed as the Chairman of the Political Affairs Committee, which includes senior state leaders such as Vincent H. Pala, Deborah C. Marak, Saleng A. Sangma, Jarita Laitflang, Matthew Anthony, and several other party officials.
Vincent H. Pala will chair the State Election Committee, which will also include representatives from the party’s Women Congress and Youth Congress branches.
The Disciplinary Action Committee will be led by Khranglin Lingkhoi TBN, with Wanasuk Siem serving as its coordinator. Saleng A. Sangma will head the Manifesto Committee, with Sanjay Das as its coordinator.
These major organizational changes come at a time when Congress is working to strengthen its state-level framework in Meghalaya, enhance coordination among senior leaders, and prepare its organization for upcoming political challenges.
