Lucknow, February 13: During the Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s budget session, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received praise for the state’s law and order situation. However, opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey expressed dissatisfaction with the Chief Minister’s responses.

In an interview, Pandey highlighted serious concerns about the state’s safety, stating that women walking on the streets are at risk of chain snatching incidents. He criticized the lack of information regarding the Lokayukta report, questioning whether it had been released and, if so, where it was.

While addressing the Assembly, Pandey noted that there have been 262 encounters with criminals. He acknowledged that encounters may be necessary but emphasized that such practices are not enshrined in the Constitution. He criticized the Chief Minister for initiating this approach and warned that future governments might reconsider its validity.

Pandey also pointed out that many citizens are troubled by corruption, yet it remains a topic of little discussion, whether at the tehsil level or beyond. He stressed that the entire state, including farmers and rural residents, suffers from this issue.

Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra accused Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of using inappropriate language regarding Shankaracharya, a significant figure for millions of Hindus, noting that he had been on a hunger strike for 11 days without any acknowledgment.

Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra Mona reaffirmed the party’s respect for “Vande Mataram,” stating that it has always been honored and will continue to be. She raised concerns about the alarming rise in road accidents and the urgent need for systemic improvements in road safety during the fifth day of the budget session.

This situation calls for immediate attention to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens in Uttar Pradesh.
