New Delhi, April 1: The financial year begins with a significant blow to consumers as commercial LPG cylinder prices have risen due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Government-owned oil companies have announced a price hike of ₹195.50 for the 19 kg LPG cylinders, effective today, April 1. In Delhi, the new price has escalated from ₹1883 to ₹2078.50.
Just a month ago, on March 1, the price was ₹1768.50, which increased to ₹1883 on March 7. With the latest hike, the total increase since March 1 amounts to ₹310. In Kolkata, the price for the same cylinder is now ₹2208.00, while in Mumbai it stands at ₹2031.00, and in Chennai, it has reached ₹2246.50.
In contrast, there has been no change in domestic LPG prices. The last adjustment occurred on March 7, when the price for a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder rose by ₹60. Currently, the price in Delhi for a domestic cylinder is ₹913.
The rise in commercial LPG cylinder prices will directly impact consumers, as hotel and restaurant operators may increase food prices. This means dining out could become more expensive.
The global energy crisis has intensified due to the Iran-Israel-U.S. conflict, with the closure of the Hormuz Strait causing disruptions in gas and crude oil supplies. Consequently, crude oil prices have skyrocketed, leading to significant increases in gas and petroleum prices worldwide. In India, LPG prices have already risen twice amid the ongoing conflict.
