Purulia, April 7: As the election date approaches in West Bengal, political rhetoric is intensifying. On Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato criticized Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee for his remarks regarding Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.
Khawaja Asif had threatened an attack on Kolkata, prompting Banerjee to mention that he would include Asif on his list and vowed to teach Pakistan a lesson once TMC forms the government in the state.
In response, Mahato took a jab at Banerjee, labeling him as TMC’s international spokesperson. He stated, “Abhishek Banerjee, who has come to power through raids, should first focus on saving Bengal. TMC is a regional party, and its international secretary is dreaming of governing Pakistan and Bangladesh. He should first ensure TMC’s survival before engaging in national politics.”
Mahato added, “The West Bengal Assembly elections are approaching, with voting scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29. This time, TMC will face a significant defeat. Once BJP forms the government, TMC will be relegated to the ranks of CPM and Congress. Banerjee should prioritize his party’s future before contemplating national issues.”
It is noteworthy that the West Bengal Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will see voting on April 23 for 152 assembly seats, while the second phase will cover the remaining 142 seats on April 29. The counting of votes for the total 294 seats will take place on May 4.
