Visakhapatnam, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : A three-day tabletop exercise under the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) successfully concluded on September 11 at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam. The exercise commenced on September 9 with an inaugural address by Rear Admiral Manoj Jha, Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of the ENC, emphasizing the need for a coordinated response to illegal maritime activities in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
Delegates from CSC member and observer countries, along with maritime security experts, engaged in intensive simulated operational scenarios for over 72 hours. The discussions primarily focused on addressing complex and unconventional security challenges, including maritime terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Participants reviewed existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and streamlined information-sharing arrangements to enhance collective Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). This exercise reaffirmed the collective resolve of the Colombo Security Conclave nations to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, aligning with their vision for mutual and comprehensive progress in maritime security and development.
An official statement from the Indian Navy noted, “The tabletop exercise of the Colombo Security Conclave was successfully concluded on September 11 at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, starting with Rear Admiral Manoj Jha’s inaugural speech.” The statement further highlighted that the participating maritime nations worked collaboratively on a coordinated response to illegal maritime activities in the IOR, focusing on enhancing intelligence-sharing processes and developing joint strategic protocols to tackle international threats.
