CM Umar Abdullah Urges Strict Action in Attack on Kashmiri Vendor in Uttarakhand

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Umar Abdullah has taken note of the reported assault on a young Kashmiri shawl vendor in Uttarakhand. On Thursday, CM Abdullah spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging him to take strict action against the perpetrators, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office confirmed.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Jammu and Kashmir CM Office stated, “The Chief Minister spoke to Uttarakhand’s Hon’ble Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the attack on a young Kashmiri shawl seller in Uttarakhand and urged strict action against the culprits.”

CM Abdullah added that CM Dhami assured him that a First Information Report (FIR) would be registered, and stringent measures would be taken to ensure the safety of Jammu and Kashmir residents.

Earlier, PDP leader Iltija Mufti strongly condemned the incident and demanded action against those responsible. In a post on X, she wrote, “In Uttarakhand, this 18-year-old Kashmiri shawl seller was beaten with an iron rod until his bones were shattered. This is one among several violent incidents against Kashmiris in India, where criminals feel shielded by the system. These are no longer isolated cases. The BJP is actively mainstreaming these elements, who are no longer on the margins.”

She further questioned Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, asking, “Pushkar Singh Dhami, can we request you to take action?”

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s intervention underscores the urgency of addressing communal violence and ensuring the protection of vulnerable communities across states.
