Davanagere, April 6: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a scathing attack on former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, and BJP opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Monday. He accused them of joining the BJP to preserve their political existence.
Siddaramaiah reminded the media of these leaders’ previous comments against the BJP, RSS, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Responding to questions from journalists in Davanagere, Siddaramaiah questioned the credibility of the leaders who have now allied with the BJP. He asked, “Are you not aware of what these leaders have said about the BJP, RSS, and Prime Minister Modi in the past? Now, to save their political existence, they have joined the BJP. What moral right do they have to point fingers at us?”
The Chief Minister emphasized that the people of the state appreciate the Congress government’s guarantee schemes and accused the BJP of opposing these initiatives aimed at the poor. He stated, “The BJP is against the poor and even against the Constitution. The people of the state have no reason to support such a party.”
In response to Kumaraswamy’s claim that he does not engage in dynastic politics and that the public has elected him, Siddaramaiah countered by questioning the defeat of Kumaraswamy’s son in Channapatna. He remarked, “If that is the case, why did his son lose? It is not wrong to contest elections when the public wants, but what do they say when the public rejects them?”
When asked if Minister Jameer Ahmed did not campaign vigorously in Davanagere South, the Chief Minister clarified that Jameer has been actively working in various regions, including Kerala and Bagalkot, and had indeed campaigned in Davanagere.
He stated, “Jameer is a disciplined soldier of the party. He has conveyed a clear message of support for Congress to voters and party workers.”
Siddaramaiah also targeted BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, stating that he was previously with Congress, benefited from the party, and later joined the BJP for similar advantages. He questioned, “Do you know what he has said about the BJP in the past?”
He accused former PM Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy of aligning with the BJP to save their political relevance and suggested they should remember their old statements against the BJP and RSS.
Criticizing the JD(S), Siddaramaiah noted that when he was the party’s state president, they won 59 seats, but have since dwindled to just 19 seats.
In response to Kumaraswamy’s allegation that the Congress government is not supporting industrial development in the state, the Chief Minister sarcastically remarked, “A person who cannot mount the horse presented to him cannot be called brave or valiant.”
