Indore, April 14: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was a staunch advocate for women’s respect and rights, even sacrificing his position for their dignity.
Speaking at the birth anniversary celebration of Dr. Ambedkar in Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow), CM Yadav noted that Ambedkar was a visionary who fought against a millennium of oppression to promote equality in society. He expressed pride in Ambedkar’s contributions and urged adherence to the Constitution he crafted, which he deemed unparalleled.
Reflecting on Ambedkar’s efforts for women’s equality and empowerment, Yadav highlighted his role in securing women’s rights to inheritance, divorce compensation, and maternity leave. He praised Ambedkar for advocating “equal work for equal pay” for women.
The Chief Minister stated that Ambedkar was a courageous supporter of women’s empowerment, even relinquishing his chair for their rights. He mentioned that minimum wage laws, company regulations, and rights for female workers are all legacies of Ambedkar. The central government is preparing to implement the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,” which will ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Yadav asserted that the nation will always remember Dr. Ambedkar for his contributions to women’s welfare. He noted that Ambedkar dedicated his life to serving the nation and guiding society towards progress. The atmosphere at the Bhim birthplace today is festive, akin to a celebration. The government has developed five significant sites related to Ambedkar’s life as Panchteerth. To combat caste inequality, the government offers a financial incentive of ₹2 lakh to newlyweds who engage in inter-caste marriages. Additionally, one-third of the annual budget for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Tribes is allocated to these communities.
Usha Thakur, MLA from Mhow and former minister, urged everyone to follow Ambedkar’s path as a true tribute to him. She called for a collective commitment to reject violence, theft, substance abuse, and wrongdoing. Ambedkar was dedicated to transformative change in society. Based on his ideals of gender equality, the parliament is set to reserve 33% of seats for women through the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.”
Senior thinker Alok Kumar remarked on Dr. Ambedkar’s exceptional education and the discrimination he faced in society. He recalled that when it was time to draft the Constitution, Mahatma Gandhi suggested that only one person was fit to lead the drafting committee: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. His appointment was a testament to his qualifications. Ambedkar fostered fraternity and brotherhood, asserting that untouchability and discrimination have no place in Indian culture. He urged adherence to the rules and regulations outlined in the Constitution, emphasizing the need for collective efforts towards the nation’s development and the prosperity of all societal segments.
