Kolkata, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : A chaotic scene unfolded at Kolkata’s Bankshal Court on Thursday afternoon as a hearing for arrested YouTuber Deepak Byapari escalated into violence. Following his appearance in court, protesters began chanting slogans upon seeing Byapari, and reports indicate that eggs were thrown at him.
A group of lawyers expressed their outrage over the egg-throwing incident. Despite their objections, protesters allegedly continued their actions, resulting in a confrontation that quickly turned violent. Eyewitnesses claim that the demonstrators initially attacked two lawyers who had raised concerns about the egg-throwing.
As tensions rose, the situation spiraled out of control, prompting a group of lawyers to chase down and apprehend one of the protesters. Police had to intervene to restore order.
Byapari faces two complaints, including one for allegedly making derogatory comments about Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, on social media. He was arrested in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, around 4:30 PM on Monday.
In addition to this charge, Byapari is under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for alleged involvement in anti-national activities. His controversial remarks on social and political issues have drawn the attention of central intelligence agencies.
The NIA is also investigating potential connections between Byapari and a previous case involving Zafar Riaz, a Kolkata resident arrested in May for espionage and alleged anti-India activities linked to Pakistan. Riaz’s wife and child are reportedly Pakistani citizens, raising suspicions about a broader network.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expanding their probe into Byapari’s activities and associations.
