Ranchi, July 21: A significant development unfolded on Tuesday evening amid an investigation into alleged irregularities in the 14th Joint Civil Services Preliminary Examination conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). A joint team from the CID and Ranchi police raided the JPSC office and the premises of the agency responsible for conducting the examination. Just hours after this operation, JPSC Chairman L. Khyangte resigned from his position.
L. Khyangte was appointed as the chairman of JPSC on February 27, 2025. However, no official statement regarding the reasons for his resignation has been released by the government or the commission. Khyangte previously served as the Chief Secretary of the Jharkhand government and was appointed to this role after his retirement.
According to reports, the CID and Ranchi police team conducted an extensive investigation at the JPSC office on Tuesday evening. They examined various documents, computer records, OMR-related records, and other digital materials associated with the commission. During the operation, movement within the office was restricted. The team also raided the office of the examination conducting agency, TDPL, seizing hard drives, pen drives, diaries, and other documents. The agency’s office has been sealed.
Police have detained three individuals linked to the agency for questioning. The CID has also interrogated JPSC’s Assistant Examination Controller Shweta Gupta along with several other officials and staff members. However, the investigation agency has not clarified the basis for the detention of these individuals or the specific points of inquiry.
Since the announcement of the results for the 14th JPSC Preliminary Examination, candidates have continuously raised allegations of irregularities and a lack of transparency in the examination process. Student organizations are demanding a high-level investigation into the results, as well as the public release of OMR sheets and cut-off marks. Opposition parties have also questioned the government and the commission regarding this issue.
The CID has stated that the examination of the seized documents and digital evidence is ongoing. Further actions will be determined once the investigation is complete. Meanwhile, the chairman’s resignation and the CID’s actions have added a new political and administrative dimension to the entire matter.
