Patna, March 17: The next Chief Minister of Bihar will be from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), confirmed Union Minister Chirag Paswan. He clarified that he is not in the race for the CM position and will focus on the responsibilities assigned to him by Prime Minister Modi at the center.
During a media interaction in Patna, Paswan stated that he believes the next Chief Minister should be from the BJP. However, he noted that the final decision will be made soon within the alliance. He extended his best wishes to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is embarking on a new term.
Paswan emphasized that the opposition’s claims should not be taken seriously. He asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is united, while the opposition remains fragmented.
He pointed out the visible disarray among the opposition during the recent Rajya Sabha elections, where even some legislators from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were absent, along with several Congress members. A consensus on the Chief Minister’s name has largely been reached, with only formalities left. Under the new Chief Minister’s leadership, the government will work with renewed vigor.
Regarding JDU leader Nishant Kumar, Paswan mentioned that his party needs to define his role. There has been ongoing speculation about Kumar’s entry into politics, and now that he has arrived, Paswan welcomes him.
Paswan also highlighted that elections are upcoming in five different states, with the Election Commission having announced the dates. He believes that the NDA’s position is strong in all these states, even in regions where they do not currently govern, such as West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He recently visited Tamil Nadu and Assam, expressing confidence that the NDA will form the government again in Assam under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In West Bengal, he believes the NDA will also succeed in forming a government, citing a strong anti-incumbency wave against the current Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Public discontent is growing due to ongoing confrontations with the central government and opposition to various decisions.
