Udaipur : Superstition related to branding of children to cure them of common ailments by ‘bhopas’ continue in tribal dominated areas, one such incident has been reported from Aasoda village under Ganoda police station of Banswara district on Sunday evening. A one-year-old kid was branded with a hot iron rod by a bhopa when his parents took him to get treated for epilepsy. The boy was taken to the community health center after his health condition deteriorated who was later reffered and admitted in Udaipur civil hospital late night on Sunday. His condition is better, said doctors here.
One year old Akash so Pintu was taken to a quack who branded the child at three places on his stomach, allegedly to cure him of the disease. When his health worsened, the family took him to Ganoda health centre which referred him to Udaipur hospital. The child is out of danger but yet under observation, medical sources informed. The child’s father told media that he was in Ahmedabad when his family members had taken the child reportedly to the bhopa and he expressed ignorance on the branding act. The child’s mother too tried to hide the incident however, the branding marks are evident on the kid’s body.
