Chhattisgarh to Host Mass Weddings for Over 2,300 Couples Under Chief Ministers Initiative

Raipur, May 7: Chhattisgarh is set to host a series of mass wedding ceremonies across all districts today under the ‘Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana.’

This year, more than 2,300 couples from various religions and communities, including Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and particularly vulnerable tribal groups, will tie the knot according to their respective customs and traditions.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai described the event as a celebration of equality, dignity, and unity. He emphasized that this initiative goes beyond merely conducting weddings; it aims to promote social harmony and ensure that welfare schemes reach the most disadvantaged sections of society.

This initiative has already gained global recognition. On February 10, 2026, a record-breaking 6,412 couples were married at a state-level mass wedding ceremony held at the Science College Grounds in Raipur. This event earned a spot in the ‘Golden Book of World Records.’ Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai personally blessed 1,316 couples, while others participated virtually from their districts.

The upcoming ceremonies are expected to enhance Chhattisgarh’s image as a state that integrates traditions with progressive welfare measures, making marriage a symbol of social justice, equality, and collective pride.

Preparations for these ceremonies are complete, and the administrative team is finalizing arrangements in all districts. The participation of diverse communities reflects Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural diversity and the government’s inclusive approach.

The Chief Minister noted that where marriage used to be a concern for economically weaker families, this scheme has transformed that worry into confidence and dignity.

Launched in 2006, the ‘Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana’ provides every newlywed couple with financial assistance of 35,000 rupees, along with essential household items and arrangements for wedding rituals.

The scheme aims to benefit families living below the poverty line, with eligibility linked to ration cards issued under the ‘Chief Minister Food Scheme.’ It also supports widows, orphans, and destitute women, ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left out.

The Women and Child Development Department has made extensive arrangements in all districts to ensure a dignified and comfortable environment for the couples and their families.
