
Chandigarh, July 1: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian women’s cricket team for the upcoming Asian Games. Nandini Sharma from Chandigarh has secured a spot in the squad. This selection is also a significant achievement for the Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA).
The Indian women’s team will enter the competition as the defending champions after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. Nandini’s impressive performances in various domestic and national competitions contributed to her selection.
Earlier this year, she represented India A in the ACC Rising Star Women’s Asia Cup. After participating in tournaments organized by the BCCI at the under-19, under-23, and senior levels, Nandini consistently excelled in major domestic competitions such as the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Tournament, Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy, and Senior Women’s ODI Challenger Trophy.
In the Women’s Premier League (WPL), she is part of the Delhi Capitals, where she showcased her exceptional skills. Nandini has also been included in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup to be held in England.
Expressing pride in Nandini’s selection, UTCA President Saransh Tandon stated, “Nandini’s inclusion in the Indian team for the Asian Games is a matter of great pride for Chandigarh and UTCA. She has earned this opportunity through years of hard work, discipline, and consistent performance. We are confident she will make a significant contribution to the Indian team and continue to inspire young cricketers in the region.”
The Indian squad for the 2026 Asian Games includes: Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (Wicketkeeper), G. Kamalini (Wicketkeeper), Bharti Fulmali, Shri Charani, Renuka Thakur, Kranti Gaud, Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil (fitness dependent), Radha Yadav, and Nandini Sharma.
