New Delhi, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian government has approved the appointment of 14 judges across various High Courts, as announced by Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Minister of Law and Justice, on Saturday. This decision comes following consultations with the Chief Justice of India and utilizes powers granted by the Constitution.

In total, seven judges have been appointed to the Delhi High Court. Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahai Saxena have been designated as permanent judges. Meanwhile, Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Aditi Chaudhary, Dinesh Bhatt, and Arun Bhardwaj have been appointed as additional judges. Notably, Arun Bhardwaj currently serves as the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court.

Earlier, on September 10, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended eight judicial officers for judgeships at the Delhi High Court. However, the government has approved only seven of those names. The sanctioned strength of judges at the Delhi High Court is 60, with 44 currently serving, leaving 16 vacancies.

In addition, three new judges have been appointed to the Jharkhand High Court: Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar, and Ram Sharma. With these new appointments, the number of judges in Jharkhand will increase from 13 to 16, while the court has a sanctioned strength of 25 judges.

The government has also announced the appointment of Yash Paul Borni to the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, following a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium during a meeting on September 10.

Furthermore, three judicial officers have been promoted to additional judges in the Karnataka High Court. These appointees include Usha Rani, K.S. Bharat Kumar, and Nerale Veerabhadraiah Bhavani. With these new appointments, the number of judges in Karnataka will rise from 54 to 57, against a sanctioned strength of 62.

This significant move is expected to strengthen the judicial system and address the backlog of cases in various High Courts across the country.
