Ujjain, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Indian cricket stars Kuldeep Yadav and Tilak Varma visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on October 12 to witness the sacred Bhasma Aarti. The ceremony, held on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashwin, attracted a large number of devotees eager to experience this spiritual event.
The players arrived at the temple around 4 AM and spent nearly two hours in the Nandi Hall, participating in the Bhasma Aarti and chanting prayers. After the ritual, they received blessings from the deity before proceeding to pay their respects to Lord Kal Bhairav.
The temple doors were opened with the sounds of drums and trumpets, following the blessings of Lord Veerbhadra. After the divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, devotees were allowed to have darshan of Baba Mahakal, filling the temple with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The air resonated with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
As the temple opened, devotees witnessed the sacred water abhishekam of Lord Mahakal, using a mixture of milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices known as Panchamrit. The ritual began with the ringing of bells and the offering of water, followed by the Kapoor Aarti, during which Baba donned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti concluded with musical performances featuring traditional instruments.
The deity was adorned with Bhang and a silver tripund, captivating the devotees with divine darshan. Many devotees had queued up since Wednesday night, eager to witness the Bhasma Aarti, a tradition performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara. It is believed that after the offering of Bhasma, Baba Mahakal manifests from the formless to the form, drawing countless pilgrims to the sacred city of Ujjain.
