
Bhopal, May 1: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Governor Mangubhai Patel of Madhya Pradesh participated in a joint celebration for the foundation days of Gujarat and Maharashtra on Friday. During the event, Governor Patel highlighted that May 1 marks the administrative formation of two of India’s most prosperous states, Gujarat and Maharashtra. He referred to this day as a celebration of their remarkable journeys of development.
Patel emphasized that India’s geographical and cultural diversity is its greatest strength, and unity among these diversities is the foundation for a strong, prosperous, and self-reliant India. He noted that Maharashtra’s industrial capacity and financial leadership, combined with Gujarat’s entrepreneurship, business acumen, maritime development, and renewable energy, form a robust foundation for a developed India.
Addressing the joint celebration, Governor Patel extended his best wishes to the residents of both states on their foundation days. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav was also present. The event was organized at the Sandipani Auditorium in Lok Bhavan under the theme of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India).
Governor Patel urged citizens, especially the youth, to recognize the unparalleled strength of their diversity and to work together towards a developed India. He also called for active participation in realizing the ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat’ vision and contributing significantly to the nation’s reconstruction.
He mentioned that Gujarat is home to sacred pilgrimage sites like Dwarka and the world-famous Somnath Temple. The state’s cultural identity is reflected in its festivals, particularly during Navratri, where the worship of Goddess Durga is celebrated through Garba and Dandiya, renowned worldwide. The Rann of Kutch, Gir forests, the banks of the Sabarmati River, the blessings of the Narmada River, and the Statue of Unity showcase the state’s unique diversity. Icons like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel have established India’s distinctive identity globally.
Patel remarked that the people of Gujarat are known for their resilience, innovation, business acumen, discipline, and deep faith in cultural values. Their hard work and entrepreneurship contribute significantly to the country’s economic and social progress. Gujarat plays a vital role in the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’ initiatives through innovation in industry, trade, port development, and entrepreneurship.
He further stated that hard work, discipline, harmony, cultural pride, entrepreneurship, and patriotism define the identity of the people of Maharashtra. These qualities contribute significantly to the nation’s progress while balancing tradition and modernity. The sacred land of Maharashtra is symbolized by the continuous flow of the Godavari River, the grandeur of the Sahyadri mountains, the Ajanta-Ellora caves, the Triyambakeshwar Jyotirlinga, and pilgrimage sites like Shirdi and Pandharpur, representing our rich mythological, cultural, and natural heritage.
Governor Patel noted that the devotional traditions of saints like Dnyaneshwar, Tukaram, and Namdev have fostered moral values, harmony, and spiritual awareness in society. The indomitable courage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the spirit of Swaraj have instilled self-esteem among Indians. Great leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, Veer Savarkar, and Gopal Krishna Gokhale played pivotal roles in the national awakening during the freedom struggle.
Cultural presentations based on the glorious folk culture and historical traditions of Gujarat and Maharashtra were showcased. He appreciated all the vibrant cultural performances. The Gujarati community presented an attractive performance themed ‘Vibrant Spirit of Gujarat.’ A message from Gujarat’s Governor Acharya Devvrat was broadcasted, along with a short film on Gujarat’s history and art culture. The Maharashtra cultural presentation included a performance by the Aai Saheb Group, highlighting the state’s historical, spiritual, and heritage aspects. A message from Maharashtra’s Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and a short film on the formation of Maharashtra were also screened.
Representatives from Gujarat and Maharashtra residing in Madhya Pradesh welcomed Governor Patel in traditional style, presenting him with Marathi sathas and mementos. The joint celebration was attended by Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi, Governor’s Principal Secretary Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari, Deputy Secretary Sunil Dubey, President of the Gujarati community Sanjay Patel, representatives from the Marathi community Abhijit Deshmukh, Sheila Pradhan, citizens residing in Madhya Pradesh from both states, and officials from Lok Bhavan.
