Ahmedabad, August 2: Every year on August 2, Gandhinagar Foundation Day is celebrated. On this day in 1965, the first brick was laid on the banks of the Sabarmati River. By 1970, Gandhinagar was designated as the capital of Gujarat, replacing Ahmedabad. On this occasion, Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel extended his greetings.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel posted on ‘X’, “Heartfelt congratulations on the Foundation Day of Gandhinagar, known as the Green City and the center of good governance and administrative systems in Gujarat.”
He added, “Our Gandhinagar has not only become a green and well-planned city but also a model for education hubs and modern infrastructure. I hope Gandhinagar continues to reach new heights of development while preserving the environment.”
Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi also conveyed his wishes on social media, stating, “Where every road tells a story of progress, and every breath carries the fragrance of greenery. Heartfelt congratulations on the Foundation Day of Gandhinagar, the proud capital of Gujarat.”
Gandhinagar is the second city in the country that was planned and built. It has emerged as not only the capital of Gujarat but also a center for major events and education. The city’s railway station is one of the most modern in the region, and it is recognized as a Green City. The state’s first Chief Minister, Jivraj Mehta, selected Gandhinagar as the new capital after examining various locations.
Named after Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhinagar has seen significant development. Among its notable landmarks are the Assembly and the Mahatma Mandir, which are widely recognized.
