CBSE Class 12 Exam Results: Over 17,000 Students Score 95% or Higher

New Delhi, May 13: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results for the Class 12 board exams for 2026. Alongside the results, the board revealed that over one lakh students achieved scores of 90% or higher, with more than 17,000 students securing 95% or above. However, the CBSE reiterated that it will not publish a merit list this year.

According to the board, students have performed exceptionally well this year. A total of 94,028 students scored 90% or more, representing 5.32% of all successful candidates. In contrast, 17,113 students achieved scores of 95% or higher, accounting for 0.97% of the total pass rate.

Notably, students with special needs also excelled. Among them, 276 students scored over 90%, while 48 achieved more than 95%. Their remarkable success has drawn significant attention.

The board reported that the success rate for students with special needs exceeded 90%, marking a significant achievement in inclusive education. Of the 6,397 registered special needs students, 6,342 took the exam, and 5,718 were declared successful, resulting in a pass percentage of 90.16. The board views this as a positive indicator of students’ hard work reflected in their performance.

Additionally, there has been an increase in the number of students falling into the compartment category. In 2025, 129,095 students faced compartment exams, which was 7.63% of all candidates. This year, the number rose to 163,800, representing 9.26% of students. Education experts attribute this rise to the increasing competitiveness of exams and the strict evaluation process.

This year, the overall passing percentage for students nationwide stood at 85.20%. This figure is 3.19% lower than last year’s pass rate of 88.39%. For the first time, the CBSE implemented a fully ‘on-screen marking’ system for evaluating answer sheets.

According to the board, this has been the largest digital evaluation campaign to date, with 9,866,622 answer sheets assessed digitally.
