New Delhi, March 15: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to cancel the Class 12 board examinations in several Middle Eastern countries due to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. This significant decision affects CBSE-affiliated schools in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. An official circular was issued by the board on March 15, outlining the reasons behind this cancellation.
The board stated that the current circumstances in the region necessitated this decision. Millions of CBSE students reside outside India, which is why these board exams were scheduled to be conducted simultaneously across 26 countries. However, due to the escalating conflict, the exams in the Middle East could not proceed as planned.
According to the circular released by the board on Sunday, the Class 12 board exams for students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE will no longer take place. The board had previously reassessed the possibility of conducting exams in these countries multiple times. However, based on information received from these regions, requests from local schools, and the prevailing local conditions, the decision to cancel the exams was made. Earlier, on March 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, 2026, circulars had been issued regarding the postponement of some exams. Now, all these exams have been officially canceled.
As per the latest decision by the CBSE board, all Class 12 board exams scheduled between March 16 and April 10, 2026, for students in these countries are completely canceled. Additionally, previously postponed exams will also be considered canceled. The board has indicated that it will provide separate information on how the results for students in these countries will be declared.
CBSE may soon release detailed guidelines regarding the result declaration process and evaluation methods. Following the circular issued by CBSE’s examination controller, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, there is growing curiosity among thousands of Indian students studying in the Middle East and their parents about the new situation. Everyone is now keenly observing how the board will approach the result declaration. Official notifications regarding the cancellation have also been sent to the embassies.
The Indian embassies and consulates in the affected countries have been informed. The embassies that received official notifications include the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, the Indian Embassy in Muscat, the Indian Embassy in Doha, the Indian Embassy in Manama, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait City, the Indian Embassy in Tehran, the Indian Consulate in Dubai, and the regional office of the CBSE in Dubai.
