CBI Seizes Mobile of Hospital Staff in RG Kar Rape-Murder Case

Kolkata, August 10: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has seized the mobile phone of a female staff member from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital as part of its renewed investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor in August 2024.

The body of the junior doctor was discovered in a seminar room on August 9, 2024. The hospital staff member was the first to inform the victim’s family about the incident.

Sources indicate that the mobile phone was confiscated because the victim’s family alleged that the staff member provided conflicting information during several calls made shortly after the incident.

The seized phone has been sent for forensic analysis. Investigators are examining call records and other information to find answers to critical questions related to the case.

Members of the new Special Investigation Team (SIT) are looking into how and why the hospital staff member contacted the victim’s family. They are also attempting to verify the family’s claims that she provided inconsistent details in subsequent calls.

Investigators believe that the call records may hold vital clues about the larger conspiracy behind the rape and murder. They are focusing on which numbers the staff member called before contacting the victim’s family and which numbers called her.

According to sources, the purpose of sending the seized mobile phone for forensic examination is to determine if any deleted data can be recovered. They are also investigating whether any new leads can be found through other digital communications apart from the call logs.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Chief Minister of West Bengal ordered the state police to re-investigate the incident involving the hasty cremation of the victim in the RG Kar rape and murder case in August 2024.
