New Delhi, August 10: Women beneficiaries became emotional during a meeting with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Assembly on Monday. The Chief Minister distributed bicycles to schoolgirls under the ‘Vidya Vahini Scheme’ aimed at promoting education and empowering girls.
In a conversation with reporters, CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the Delhi government’s commitment to boosting girls’ confidence and ensuring their holistic development.
“The Delhi government aims to enhance the confidence of our daughters. We stand by them so they can move forward with greater self-assurance. We want to address every need related to their safety, dignity, health, and well-being, empowering girls from birth through the ‘Lakshmi Scheme’,” she stated.
She also highlighted the government’s focus on encouraging girls to become self-reliant.
“We are working to ensure that when a girl reaches the 9th grade, she receives a bicycle to promote her independence. Additionally, several initiatives launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aim to empower girls and women across the country,” she added.
Under the ‘Vidya Vahini Scheme’, CM Gupta distributed bicycles to students. This initiative aims to improve access to education and encourage girls to attend school.
Meanwhile, BJP workers staged protests, alleging that leaders and legislators from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were obstructing the implementation of the ‘Lakshmi Scheme’. A separate protest was also held outside the office of opposition leader Atishi, led by former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri.
BJP leader Harish Oberoi stated that women gathered outside the residences and offices of AAP legislators to express their discontent.
“All these women have come to protest against the stance of AAP legislators. Our esteemed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has initiated the ‘Lakshmi Scheme’, which provides women with 2,500 rupees. However, when this issue was discussed in the assembly, AAP legislators opposed it and walked out of the house,” Oberoi remarked.
