Gonda, August 10: BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, recently acquitted by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in a case of alleged sexual harassment against female wrestlers, has responded to the accusations. He claims that a conspiracy involving 42 individuals was orchestrated, with the script allegedly written in the presence of the Hooda family and a prominent Supreme Court lawyer.
In an interview with a news agency, Singh stated, “The path is now open for these women wrestlers to approach the High Court, as they seem intent on prolonging the case. They wanted it to drag on for four to six years, hence they requested six-month intervals for each hearing. The court has also patiently granted them time.”
Singh asserted that not all evidence has been presented in court. “We have compiled a list of 42 individuals, including some very prominent names, and political parties are involved. Some individuals joined the conspiracy early on, while others came in later. There were also industrialists who became involved subsequently,” he explained.
He raised questions about the logistics of the protests, noting, “A whole hotel was booked during the demonstrations. Who was covering the expenses? There were 42 significant individuals involved, including political parties. They cannot all appear in court, as only the main athletes are part of the proceedings, but these 42 were involved.”
When asked about political pressures, Singh remarked, “There was immense pressure in this case, with nearly all opposition parties involved. Protests were occurring in the U.S. and Canada. The pressure was not just on me but on the entire sports community, particularly since this case involved female athletes, including world and Olympic champions. There was pressure on the female athletes and their families as well.”
He also questioned the athletes’ act of throwing medals into the Ganges, stating, “These athletes went to the Ganges to throw their medals. This was merely a tactic to create more chaos. Various methods were employed to exert pressure.”
In the midst of the controversy, Singh expressed gratitude to those who stood by him during difficult times, saying, “I thank everyone who supported me and believed in me. I have never been swayed.”
Regarding the controversy, Singh mentioned, “I had established certain rules concerning the athletes, which had an impact. A few wrestlers were upset and initiated a movement. I stated from the beginning that while I may not know about them, I know about myself. Initially, I was labeled as arrogant and boastful. I have been working patiently. I believe no one else has faced such a grand conspiracy of sexual harassment.”
Singh alleged that the script for the accusations was crafted in the presence of the Hooda family and a prominent Supreme Court lawyer. He noted that three wrestlers eventually came forward, with one indicating that his wife would make allegations, while two others expressed their intent to accuse him.
Referring to the Mahadev Wrestling Academy, Singh stated, “This is a family-run academy. It belongs to the Hooda family. Offers were made to some individuals to become Deputy Superintendents or Directors. The Fogat family is involved, while the academy is Mahadev Academy. This is how the entire matter was orchestrated.”
Addressing the allegations against him, Singh insisted, “I neither grabbed anyone’s clothing nor attempted to remove it, yet it was portrayed as if multiple incidents occurred with children. An effort was made to create the image of a rapist. Now, everything has come to light.”
