
Hyderabad, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : A court in Hyderabad has sentenced a Cotton Corporation officer and his wife to prison for accumulating assets beyond their known income. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced the verdict on September 12, 2026.
The case dates back to November 3, 2016, when the CBI filed charges against Majeti Venkata Bhavani Prasad, a cotton procurement officer at the Cotton Corporation of India in Warangal. The investigation revealed that from 2010 to 2015, Prasad, with the help of his wife Priyanka, amassed properties valued at ₹94.17 lakh in the names of family members. This amount exceeded their known sources of income by a staggering 291.73%.
During the investigation, the couple failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their wealth. Following the completion of the inquiry, the CBI filed a chargesheet against the accused on May 7, 2018. After a thorough hearing, the court found them guilty.
The court sentenced Prasad to five years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh. His wife, Priyanka, received a four-year sentence and a fine of ₹50,000.
