
New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a sub-inspector of the Delhi Police in connection with a bribery case. The accused, identified as a member of the Prashant Vihar police station, was apprehended after a complaint was filed against him.
According to the CBI, the complaint alleged that the sub-inspector solicited a bribe of ₹1 lakh from the complainant in exchange for favorably handling a criminal case registered at the police station. During a search of the complainant, officials found ₹20,000 in the sub-inspector’s pocket, which he had allegedly coerced from the individual. The accused then requested the remaining ₹80,000 to be brought the following day.
On October 4, the CBI set up a sting operation and caught the sub-inspector red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the remaining amount. He has since been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
The agency emphasized that its actions against corrupt government officials reflect its commitment to combatting corruption. Citizens facing demands for bribes or corruption from public officials are encouraged to report such incidents. They can visit CBI offices to lodge complaints or share relevant information.
In a related matter, on October 3, the CBI conducted searches at multiple locations in Mumbai as part of an investigation into a bank fraud case involving Punjab National Bank (PNB) that allegedly caused a loss of approximately ₹93.44 crore. This case was registered on September 30, based on a complaint against Hanjir Biotech Energies and its directors, along with unknown government employees and private individuals.
The accused are charged with criminal conspiracy, fraud, and offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation revealed that the defendants had taken a term loan of ₹135 crore based on invoices from a related party, misusing the funds for purposes other than those for which the loan was approved, resulting in significant losses to the bank.
