
Kolkata, June 23: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended declared fugitive Rohan Sheikh, also known as Kismat Sheikh, in connection with the Bogtui massacre case in Birbhum district, West Bengal. Sheikh was arrested on Mirza Ghalib Road in Kolkata after being on the run since the filing of the FIR in this case.
Following the Calcutta High Court‘s directive on March 25, 2022, the CBI took over the investigation of the FIR registered at the Rampurhat police station, where ten individuals tragically lost their lives in a fire.
During the investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet and three supplementary charge sheets against 27 accused individuals between 2022 and 2024, including Rohan Sheikh. He had been evading the trial process for an extended period, leading the Rampurhat competent court to declare him a proclaimed offender on April 5, 2024.
The arrested individual is scheduled to be presented before the competent court in Purba Bardhaman on June 24.
In a related development, another significant CBI operation took place on Monday in New Delhi. The agency arrested Devang Modi, former Director and CEO of Reliance Commercial Finance Limited (RCFL), and Ravindra Sudhalkar, former Executive Director and CEO of Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL), as part of an ongoing investigation linked to the Reliance ADA Group.
The CBI’s investigation revealed that the accused in the RCFL case caused a loss of ₹4,097 crore to 13 public sector banks, while the RHFL case resulted in a loss of ₹3,526 crore to 10 RHFL entities.
