CBI Academy Passes Out Record 134 Sub-Inspectors in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad witnessed a landmark event as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Academy conducted the passing out parade for a record batch of 134 Sub-Inspectors on Thursday. The ceremony was graced by CBI Director Praveen Sood, who attended as the chief guest.

These Sub-Inspectors had joined the academy on 15 May 2025 for their basic training. Their successful completion reflects their dedication, discipline, and hard work throughout the rigorous programme.

During their training, the officers received comprehensive instruction in various critical areas including law and investigative skills, anti-corruption case probes, handling traditional crimes, intelligence gathering, economic offences, cybercrime, bank frauds, mobile forensics, forensic medicine, and forensic science.

Additionally, the trainees undertook field attachments and academic visits to CBI branches, courts, local police stations, the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), AIIMS, SEBI, and other institutions. These engagements provided practical insights into the functioning of CBI and allied agencies.

The primary aim of the basic training course was to instill the highest levels of professional integrity, honesty, respect for human rights and values, along with a strong sense of discipline. Addressing the gathering, Director Praveen Sood congratulated all officers on their successful completion and acknowledged the support of their families. He highlighted that this is the largest batch of Sub-Inspectors in the history of the CBI Academy and expressed satisfaction over the participation of 18 women officers, marking progress in gender diversity within the organisation.

Director Sood also praised the efforts of the CBI Academy, which recently received a five-star rating from the Capacity Building Commission for excellence in training quality and institutional standards. He emphasised that learning does not end with the passing out parade but truly begins in the field.

He encouraged the officers to adopt a mindset of lifelong learning, given the dynamic and ever-changing challenges in policing, which often lack a fixed syllabus.

Speaking on the role of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in modern investigations, the CBI Director advised officers to leverage these tools to enhance and expedite probe processes, especially in analysing large-scale digital data. However, he clarified that technology should complement human discretion and judgment, not replace it.

During the ceremony, outstanding trainees were honoured with medals and trophies. Satyavrat Singh received the D.P. Kohli Award for Best All-Round Sub-Inspector Trainee and the DCBI Trophy for indoor studies. Sahitya was recognised for excellence in cybercrime investigation. Shekhar Balyan earned the John Lobo Trophy for best outdoor performance, while Rakshit Kumar was awarded the CBI Academy Trophy for dedication and exceptional work.

Director Sood also inaugurated the newly established “Training and Research in Advanced Cyber Evidence” (TRACE) laboratory at the CBI Academy. This state-of-the-art digital scenario and response laboratory aims to enhance officers’ practical skills in cybercrime investigation, digital forensics, and electronic evidence management through hands-on, scenario-based training. The facility simulates real-life cybercrime situations, covering everything from digital evidence seizure to courtroom presentation.

Senior CBI officials, including Special Directors Manoj Sashidhar and Sampat Meena, Additional Directors N. Venugopal and A.Y.V. Krishna, along with representatives from various departments and local administration, were present to witness this historic event.
