Patna, August 14: A significant update for candidates preparing for teacher recruitment in Bihar has emerged. Those participating in the Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026 will also be eligible to apply for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Exam TRE-4. However, passing the STET 2026 is mandatory to qualify for the TRE-4 exam. Only candidates who pass STET will receive their TRE-4 admit cards, as confirmed by Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari on Thursday.
The Education Minister clarified that the TRE-4 exam will be conducted only after the STET 2026 results are announced. He stated that BPSC will issue an advertisement for TRE-4 in advance, allowing STET candidates to apply. These candidates can register as appearing candidates for the TRE-4 exam.
Mithilesh Tiwari noted that there has been a consistent demand from students and candidates to conduct the STET exam before TRE-4. In response, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has been urged to schedule the STET exam promptly. The application process for STET is set to begin on August 17.
He mentioned that while BPSC is responsible for releasing the TRE-4 advertisement, BSEB will handle the exam dates and conduct. Discussions have already taken place between the two institutions to ensure coordination. The Education Department has requested BSEB Chairman Tyagarajan to communicate with BPSC.
The Education Minister stated that an agreement has been reached after discussions with BPSC, and the Chief Minister has also given consent. It has been decided that candidates appearing for STET will also be able to apply for TRE-4. However, the STET results will be announced before the TRE-4 exam, and only successful candidates will be allowed to take the test. He assured that this arrangement would not disrupt the exam calendar. All relevant officials have been instructed to complete the process on time and conduct the exams efficiently.
Regarding the timing of the TRE-4 exam, the Education Minister emphasized that the authority to announce the exam date lies with BPSC, and the state government cannot declare it. The department has urged BPSC to coordinate with the STET results when setting the TRE-4 exam date.
Mithilesh Tiwari assured that the STET results would be published promptly to avoid unnecessary delays in the TRE-4 exam. This arrangement will provide STET 2026 candidates the opportunity to apply for TRE-4, but passing STET remains essential for final participation in the teacher recruitment exam.
