Umar Abdullah Condemns Attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, Calls for Strong Action

New Delhi, August 14: The political climate across the country has intensified following the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal. Leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, including Chief Minister Umar Abdullah, have strongly condemned the incident and are demanding strict action against the perpetrators.

Umar Abdullah took to the social media platform X to express his outrage, stating, “I unequivocally condemn the horrific attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal this morning, alongside my father and colleagues. There is no place or justification for such attacks in a democracy. It is surprising that no concrete steps have been taken to enhance his security after the assassination attempt in Amritsar.”

The Shiromani Akali Dal has reacted sharply to the attack involving a sword. Party leaders assert that this incident is not just an assault on an individual but an attack on democratic values.

Paramjit Singh Sarna, the president of the Delhi Shiromani Akali Dal, described the incident as extremely condemnable. He has urged the Maharashtra police to conduct a fair investigation into the matter.

Saruna stated, “The manner in which Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked is a very serious and alarming incident. We strongly condemn this attack. Strict action should be taken against the guilty to prevent such incidents in the future.”

Leaders of the Akali Dal have also demanded an immediate increase in Sukhbir Badal’s security. The party argues that negligence in the security of a senior leader and former Deputy Chief Minister reflects the government’s carelessness.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi inquired about Sukhbir Badal’s well-being following the attack. He spoke with Badal’s wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, to gather information about his health.

According to police reports, the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal was carried out by Jaspal Singh at the Gurdwara Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. Inspector Santosh Kendre attempted to protect Badal but was injured in the process, resulting in injuries to both individuals. Both were hospitalized, and the accused has been arrested.
