Bijapur, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant operation against Naxalite activities, police in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, have uncovered a hidden cache of weapons in the forests of Utla village. Acting on intelligence gathered from surrendered Naxalites, the police recovered four firearms, including an AK-47, and a total of 76 live cartridges.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Umesh Prasad Gupta and led by Additional Superintendent of Police Naxal Aman Jha. Following information received from former Naxalites, police teams were dispatched from the Bhairamgarh police station to the wooded area of Utla. Prior to the operation, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Bhairamgarh, Naveen Ekka, provided the necessary safety guidelines and briefing to the officers.
While executing the search operation, the police team adhered to established safety protocols. They discovered a concealed dump while searching the area, which contained the weapons and ammunition.
The seized items include an AK-47 rifle, a .315 bore rifle, a single-shot rifle, and a 9mm pistol. Additionally, police recovered two magazines for the AK-47, along with 45 live rounds for the AK-47, 25 live rounds for the 9mm, and six live rounds for the .315 bore rifle, totaling 76 live cartridges.
Authorities stated that they are continuously gathering information from surrendered Naxalites regarding the organization’s activities and past incidents. This ongoing intelligence process is vital for locating hidden weapons and other materials in the forests.
In an effort to reintegrate surrendered Naxalites into mainstream society, the police are also conducting various social programs. They claim these initiatives are enhancing trust in law enforcement and aiding individuals in returning to normal life.
The recovered weapons and ammunition have been brought to the Bhairamgarh police station, where legal proceedings have commenced. Superintendent Umesh Prasad Gupta congratulated the officers and personnel involved in the operation and emphasized the importance of continuing such efforts in the future.
The police have indicated that search and surveillance operations by security forces are ongoing in sensitive and Naxalite-affected areas of the district.
