Budget Before Parliament: Opposition Questions Delivery on Promises

New Delhi: Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget and the Economic Survey, leaders from opposition parties have urged the government to focus on the real benefits reaching the common people. Members of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) stressed that the budget and survey should go beyond mere statistics to reflect the actual impact on the ground.

SP MP Dimple Yadav highlighted the need for the budget to clearly showcase the facilities and benefits provided to ordinary citizens. While appreciating the fact that a woman finance minister is presenting the budget, she emphasised that what matters most is the tangible advantage the public receives.

Raising critical questions, Dimple Yadav asked how many promises from previous budgets have been fulfilled and how those schemes have affected people’s lives.

Similarly, SP MP Ziaur Rahman Bark reiterated that although it is commendable to have a woman finance minister, the core issue lies in the substance of the budget. He questioned what specific provisions have been made for youth, women, farmers, the poor, and labourers. According to him, the real value of the budget will be judged by how strongly it promotes the interests of the common people.

On the other hand, Rajya Sabha member and BJD leader Sasmit Patra expressed his expectations from the Economic Survey being presented in Parliament. He hoped it would honestly reflect the nation’s true economic condition without overlooking current challenges.

Patra pointed to issues such as inflation, unemployment, the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar, difficulties in capital investment, and problems related to the financial framework. He stressed the necessity of presenting a clear and truthful picture on all these matters.

The opposition’s focus remains on ensuring that the upcoming budget and economic survey address the pressing concerns of the populace and demonstrate real progress rather than just figures on paper.
